James, I think the Clintons are the biggest joke that will go down in history. Bill loves the limelight. He can't get enough of it. Since entering office, people have joked that Hilary is the man of the house, and now, with her as Senator, and him unemployed, she basically is! And speaking of the Clintons- I met Roger once at the Donut Den in Torrance- you know, on the same block as SHS. He was telling the people who work there who he was, I overheard and said hello- and shook his hand. Funny that a little later he would be headline news.

Hope everyone is living there lives to the fullest. I am still living in Torrance and getting ready for a dive trip to Belize next month. I am sooo excited.. Take care everyone.. I hope to see some of you at the next reunion...

Dave,
I also live in San Diego and never imagined such a tragedy could happen so close to home. I have two sons in High School and we've talked about this senseless act of violence. I've reinforced how important it is that they listen to what kids are saying and TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. My youngest wasn't sure at first about reporting something people thought was "just talk." He knows now to at least tell ME and let me be the one to call the HS and let them know. You couldn't be more right about the importance of talking to our kids and listening to them. It could be a matter of life or death and they need to know it.

From time to time i look into who is leaving messages and whats happening in everyones lives. Their are so many names that i remember and how live was back then. My life has taken so many turns and twist that i wish i had not lost contact with so many people that had learned from unknowningly at the time, but to reflect how it has effected my life. I am greatful to have attended such great school and wish i had more school spirit then. I am trying to make plans to attend our twenty year reunion and to see how everyone is and how life has treated us all. I've been away from the south bay for a long time. I am currently living in Detroit, Michigan (freaking cold) But i am moving back to Arizona (where the sun always shine). Hope to see everyone in july. Till then the class of 81 rules. Rock on people.

Dave, my heart goes out to you and your family. It must be really hard, being so close to such an awful, senseless act. My two oldest boys attend South, and sometimes it seems that adolescents, by nature, are so distant. We all have the responsibility as parents to look out for our children, and to try to protect them from harm, but we don't know if we can prevent horrible things from happening to our kids.Gun control??? Maybe change the way people look at these things. I worry constantly that I'm not doing enough. My thoughts and prayers will go out to you and your family.J

Miss Percenti taught what was then called "special ed", due to illness, I repeated kindergarten, and then wound up in her class. She had kids in her class ranging from grades 1-3 at that time. And, yes, Mrs. Courtney was my 4th grade teacher. Bittersweet memories at best. I could tell stories for hours about those days... She was, and still is, an inspiration in my life.Because of Mrs. Courtney, I joined the Air Force, and I get on my friends when they litter in front of me. Wonderful lady, great teacher!!!J

Dave, It is always sad when a thing like this happens. We can never predict this. I am always sad when this happens. I had the chance to explain this to my daughter Natalie, I have been explaining to her how dangerous guns can be if in the wrong hands. Also we need to as parents need to know what are kids are up to at all times. I know that is is hard but we need to be parents again. Dave I am real sorry it happened. All we can do is to pray it never happens again. We can never stop these random acts.

Some thoughts on the tragedy at Santana HS. Never in my worst dreams did I think something so terrifying could happens so close. I live in Lakeside Ca. (about 2 miles away from the HS), and both my wife and I work in Santee. My oldest son is an eighth grader, who has friends that attend Santana. This is really, really close to home. I never felt any threat of such violence while growing up, even when traveling to inner city schools for sports events. To those of you at SHS, please talk to your peers, and listen to your peers. You can make a difference in the lives of those around you. For the alumni who are parents, hug your kids and then hug them again. Keep an open communication between them. Ask them questions about their lives and their school. We, as parents, are the real key to ending the tragic losses of young lives. Pray for those families who are now grieving and pray for the lost soul who committed this awful crime. This community is still in shock. davo

I just amazes me how Slick Willy was able to screw up so bad, and his side defended him to the last man. Case in point: The NAG's (National Assoc. of Gals) defened him through all the affiars and the Monica thing, Because they said "Look at all the wonderful things he did for women" and if you attacked him (or just pointed anything out) You were a member of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy. Now all his "supporters" are jumping so fast it is a wonder. Oh that is right they have to because they know in 2002 they will lose if any of them are still defending him or still advocate his positions. More to come. I look forward to this.

JK - I've known you long enough to call you Jimmy.
There will be no positive legacy for Klinton. Yes, the economy was good, but as much as AlBore would like to say he invented the internet, companies like Cisco, Sun, Intel, and yes, Microsoft has far more to with the positive results over the last 8 years than Klinton. He failed in the Middle East, and his peace in Ireland is not holding. Even though he was acquitted in the spineless Senate, his legacy will be that the House impeached him. His crooked wife is off to a real dubious start in her soon-to-be short-lived political career. And speaking of Ronnie, we know he has been the greatest President of our lives, and probably the twentieth century.
We know it's over for Klinton when Jimmy 'the great' Carville is slamming him in the NY Times. The only people who are surprised by the last 24 hours of his presidency are the people who have not kept their eye on the ball over the last 8 years.
The man and his evil entourage (Klintonistas) are shameless. The only people who still defend him are his Kool-Aid drinkers.

I just wonder what is his (Slick Willy) Deal with his "Legacy"? I guess he thinks that he is the greatest president since....oh I don't know, ....Ronald Reagan. Or in his mind of all. Did you all know that he had White House Staff trying to get him the Nobel Peace Prize for his Legacy? This man is incredible. That is all for now. By the way I prefer James.

Hey Jimmy - The Klinton pardons are as Jimmy Carter says, disgraceful. But no one should really be surprised. This is the man who said, "it depends on what the meaning of is, is". He and his crooked wife will get what's coming, I'm convinced of that. The DEM rats are jumping off the sinking ship in record numbers. And what about that white trash brother - he makes billy carter look like a saint. I almost moved next to brother Roger over in Marble Estates, glad I didn't, the stench would've been too much.

Zack, When I said that kids have no rights,(not Privileges) what I should have said is, Kids have rights (not to be abused etc.) but children need to earn privileges.Nothing in this world is guaranteed, by GIVING everything to our kids what are we instilling in them? When parents are trying to be our childrens friends first and parents second what are we telling them? Kids today, in general, need to learn how to be responsible for their actions. Here is a Question: If your 11 yr old got caught shoplifting what would you do? Anyone can answer. As Mr. Pessimistic pointed out the school system is courpt and should be overhauled but not so as to take away the parents rights as some would have it. James 1980

hey James, that Mr. Pesemestic is just trying to spark a conflict. He has very liittle interest in actually getting anything done. But since the topic of this conversation is parenting and you brought up an interesting point I'd like to speak my mind about. You said Kids should have ZERO privvelage in their home except for the bare neccesities because it's not a deomcracy. But shouldn't a family structure be sort of like a government with checks and balances? I mean what you're propsing is we abandon all hope in the children and have them under lock and key. Parents want to befriend their children to gain their trust to learn of their problems to THEN parent them and teach them the ways of the past. But I think it's absolutly ludicrous that you think Children shouldn't have a say in what goes on in their own home, simple because they don't "pay the bills" doesn't mean they aren't a functioning piece in the machine. Like take for example my family situation, my mom is a smoker and a drinker.... sometimes her behavior has to have some consequence... since her parents aren't around any longer and since I care, I have the right to step in and dictate her behavior. same as I would expect her to do with me. Any relationship is a two way street.... and I would like to trust my parents, not hide my weed under my matress. That is to say I smoke weed..... or have a matress. :)

To Mr Pessimistic 1999
Yes, the system is bad but to blame the school system on those in power in CO. Is irresponsible and reckless. The Parents are mostly to blame, but in REAL LIFE some people are always going to be bad, All we can do is to try to instill our best beliefs to our children and society will benefit. The problem as I see it, is that most parents are trying to be our kids friends and not being PARENTS first. Your kid (this is not a democracy) has ZERO RIGHTS in the home (other than food, shelter & clothes). Their whole life depends on us (parents) if we are not willing to do the job right than we have no business being parents. If you are (as your name indicates) a grad of 1999 then you have a lot of thinking to do. I am not that old (38) but have a kid of 8 yrs old and let me tell you if you would let them do their own thing they would, but with no guidance they would be lost forever. Kids only think of themselves (like they are supposed to) it is our job to instill (teach) them to be a respectful person. This is a complicated issue for some but for us that have figured it out...we are teaching our kids like our PARENTS have taught us...to respect our ELDERS and to be a contributing member of society.
Thanks for listening.
