BG, thanks for the fun. I think we need to establish a few ground rules for trivia, I think we should limit the questions to no more than three are four at a time. This way we have more activity with the folks trying to answer. 222 questions, wow that will take a long time.
From: Valerie Burton Appleton (1981) on Thu Apr 26 08:29:32 2001
In order now, folks! I'll take #1: it's from Jack and Diane, John Cougar Mellencamp. Who is taking #2?

James, it's funny. I've been thinking about putting out a messege to BB asking him if he feels any kinship with todays villians.

Gee Whiz, Richard.. we're talking about like, 1969 here?? Egads!! I won't see Stefan before the reunion either (well, maybe a day before..) but when I talk to him, I'll be sure to tell him you're looking forward to seeing him.
From: Richard Weeks (1981) on Wed Apr 25 16:40:03 2001
Val ask Stefan to tell you about the times we sneeked into the golf course late at night. Ask him how we found are way around, if he can't remember try jogging his memory by saying Richard said something about light bulbs.
From: Richard Weeks (1981) on Wed Apr 25 16:37:02 2001
Darn, forgot about her. Val, way back say since 1st grade. He and his Dad tought me how to play soccer and where to sign up at. Then I ended up having the greatest coach of all time, Mr. Gardener. He really played a key role in my life at that time and helped me out, gota give credit where credit is due. Thanks, Coach! Ahh the good old Hillside days! What a school! Let's see then they closed it, shipped us to Walteria, then to Newton and then to South. Us Hillside babies never got to settle down until South.

From: James Kalinski (1980) on Wed Apr 25 14:31:23 2001
RW, I believe they were. Funny how I knew that info. Even though you 81'ers may not have been there it was funny to see these giant footprints (about 3 ft long) walking up the side of the gym. This was during the big "Bigfoot" scare in the northwest the only ones involved did play a sport at south.
From: Kevin Smith (1981) on Wed Apr 25 12:48:58 2001
Answer: Amber Komada? (spelling of last name, not sure of...) Was that her, Lor? I'm sure of it... I saw her at 10th reunion.

Are we talking about Miss. Horn? Val. next time you see Stefan can you tell him I said hi. He & I go way back.
From: Valerie Burton Appleton (1981) on Wed Apr 25 10:23:50 2001
Mrs. Strong MEAN??? No way! She was great! Twice I got in arguments with teachers, and both times she told them off and I never got in trouble. She wrote me passes too! I used to ditch classes and hang out talking to her. I think she realized that keeping the lines of communication open with teenagers is very important. As for the wishing well, I graduated early, so maybe they added it in the later half of 81 and I just didn't see it. As for Stefan, he's on the reunion committee! I don't remember the footprints, and have no idea about the "bomber". No one remembers who's Daddy bought her a white corvette for her 16th birthday??? Sheesh!! (Hint: she played tennis..)
From: Richard Weeks (1981) on Wed Apr 25 09:17:46 2001
James would his initals be BB? I loved Mrs Strong, she used to write me excuses
From: James Kalinski (1980 ) on Wed Apr 25 08:23:46 2001
Richard, I know who did the fake bomb threat in the Library. That happened in 81 correct? This same person lit off a "Large" firecracker near a window in 1980 (last quarter) and he barely had time to leave the area only made it as far as the gym parking lot before it went off. That was funny then but now he would be a terrorist bomber. The footprints was done in first part of 77. Sharon Strong was the dean and as mean as they came. James
From: Richard Weeks (1981) on Wed Apr 25 07:52:44 2001
Jades, Correct! Stefan, Correct! Gazebo, I believe looked more like a wishing well I think but it was there.
From: valerie burton-appleton (1981) on Tue Apr 24 18:49:11 2001
No gazebo. (not til after 81, anyway) Was Stefan Elming the artist you refer to? Yes, Mrs. Strong was the dean.. anyone remember her first name? (I do!) Who drove the white corvette with personalized plates? And as for my top three songs, I dunno.. but the ones I associate most with my high school years are probably "Freebird" (Skynard), "Babe" (Styx) and.. hmm...I dunno, anything from the Queen album Bicycle Races.

From: Richard Weeks (1981) on Tue Apr 24 14:32:56 2001
Denise, you are correct! James I do not know but I do know who balanced the bicycle rack on the rooftop above the Rolling Stones clock and who called in the fake bomb threat to the library. Geez, look at the crap I remember. New Questions; Who hit a ground rule double at Anaheim stadium in 1980 for South when we were playing for the CIF championship game and who pitched in that game? Who drew the editorial cartoons for our school paper in 1981 and maybe 1980, not sure about 1980? Was there or was there not a Gazebo in the quad? (I’m stretching for questions here!)

Ok, you people should get this one! What was the name of the hottest party band when we were in high school? Clue #1: The band had one or more South students in it. Clue #2: This is not a major mainstream band; you would have seen them at a party or dance. In addition, it is not Oingo Boingo or Black Magic. However, if you know, you can answer the Black Magic question by telling me the names of the members. That too is mostly a South group. Sorta like a bonus question, I just don’t have any prizes to give out.

Okay, Steve Walsh - I experienced a "cerebral flatulent moment" (I had a brain-fart) Thanks for the update - what's the next trivia question? What about SHS trivia - something those of us in Class of 1981 at South would know...

Close Kev, your one for two. Tom Schultz was and is the lead guitar player for Boston. He is also almost single handedly responsible for the way we hear music these days. The reason Boston was such a hit was not only do to their music, but new fresh clean sound that they produced. Schultz is a musical & electronical genius. He like Les Paul invented things that revolutionized the music industry. Kerry Livgren, was and is a founding member of Kansas, Steve Walsh was the lead singer/keyboard player. Pretty good!

Hey Guys! James, it was Debbie that suggested "bombarding them with calls" but since it was the two of you that were discussing the subject, I addresed my comments to both of you. Yes, I am a Reunion Committee member for the 81 Reunion. Thanks for the vote of confidance! :) Richard: HUGS to you!! Forgive me!! :) Kevvers: We saw Kansas in concert last year at the Barbeque Festival in St. Pete. They were walking about eating BBQ and I said to Glen "Uhh...I think those are the guys from Kansas.." and he laughed! I was right. They're still an awesome band. I like trivia too!! Val/Lori/Me

Wrong trivia question for me. I would have no clue unless I dusted off my LP's. As for the right to carry I am all for it. And as for having a gun in my house it is put away safe as well but my daughter does respect it and will not touch it unless me or my wife are there. Her firearm training started at age 4. She was taught(and is reinforced) the basic rules: 1) If you see a gun, don't touch it. 2) Leave the room. 3) Go tell an adult. I believe that if you take the curiosity out of it they will leave it alone. But you still need to show them a healthy respect for any firearm and this is a life long task. I live by one very simple rule: A firearm is "ALWAYS LOADED". James

James you mean people like @SS & ?? that are to afraid to say how they are? Ok, can we have a new topic this week? Say music or China. Or why the cunuks have to get so upset over this last summit. Let's talk about the money, fair trade isn't that bad if you have the right partners. We just have to learn not to take advantage of ours. We shouldn't be sending our jobs to other countries for cheap labor so some fat cats can make more money. Keep jobs here in the U.S. Dang, my fingers aren't woking to day, sorry for the misspelled words. Val, I'm hurt you didn't even say hi.

Val, Bitchy? naw. You have to say what you feel and how you believe and be honest about it all. I have more respect for someone who speaks their mind honestly and is up front than someone who tells you what you want to hear and hides in anonymity. Val, you us what you believe and feel, and are not upset when someone disagrees with you. So my hats off to you. James. Keep your powder dry

Val, Debbie I only called once to the CCR. They asked me to contact the RC and after the slanderous statments by them to me I will have nothing to do with them. If they want to insert their own litle pages so be it. I know that CCR is just doing their job. I never said to anyone to "bombard them with calls". I Have e-mail address of some of the RC people but I will not give them out in public because I due believe in ones right to privacy, even to those with whom I disagree with (here that ...??) If you are in charge of your I believe that you will run it smoothly. James

The message I just wrote sounds a little bitchy, in retrospect! :) I meant it as a suggestion, so try to imagine me with a smile on my face, not shaking my finger! :D It's so easy for email to come across differently than one intended..Just wanted to say that before someone reads it and says "Hmmppff!!" (grin)
From: Valerie Burton Appleton (1981) on Mon Apr 23 06:17:51 2001
Can I make a suggestion Debbie and James? Stop calling Crearive Reunions ans START calling your Reunion Committee members! Creative Reunion is sitting there with their hands tied, and they're getting the complaints, AND their reputation sullied, and all because members of your Reunion Committee refuse to complete their job! You want to "bombard" them with calls.. but why? They're doing their job.. the Reunion Comittee told them to wait and wait they did. Now it sounds like you're upset with them for doing what they were hired to do. That's not fair to Creative Reunions, anymore than it's fair that y'all are still waiting for the memory book.. I'd just like to see the blame going where it should... Now, James, what you said was: "These Hollywood types who insist on having children while not married is bad enough but the Rosie types just make me sick. It not for a child to grow up in a household with no father, or with no mother. It takes two parents(one of each sex) to raise a child and always will. What was Rosie thinking, just like most of the feminists who needs men" So while you didn't say adoption wasn't good, you DID imply that ROSIE should not have adopted. I understood your point, and that's the one I was disagreeing with. I do agree that two parents are the ultimate solution, but one is better than none. Anne: Thanks!! Kevvers: xoxoxox Lori

Debbie, That is a good question about the RC. I would like to ask them but it would be seen by them as "ME" making a fuss. James
From: James Kalinski (1980) on Sun Apr 22 12:28:54 2001
Val, I never said it was wrong for Rosie to adopt, if anyone can't have children then they should adopt. At least she will have the money to care for them. All I was saying that all kids "Need" a father figure in their life. Yes I know that does not always happen and because of that I feel for the kids. As we all know men & women are different and this difference is what makes us great. Yes I know that all marriages do not work out. As for mine, it is going on 11 years and I dated her for 5 before that. 16 years with one woman is hard work and she would say the same thing, Hell we (men) are not perfect. As for any dead beat ex, they should be sought and made responsible for their actions. Glad to see another Grad who is proud to own a gun. James

To: Joni and James - I called the memory book place - for the 5th time? since January. They said they got a few pages back from the RC but no matter what they are sending the books out the end of April 2001 because they are getting backed up. If I don't have it by the first week of May I'm calling again and asking for refunds - for all of us. We need to bombard them with calls! I think it will help. By the way, whoever was on the RC committee - what's with doing your own little pages?

Hi Guys! James, to respond to your earlier comments regarding Rosie. I don't know if she's staright or gay, and to be honest I couldn't care less. In my mind, what makes a great parent is someone who puts the childrens needs first and loves wholehearedly. Although I may not agree with Rosie's NRA stance and other politics, I see nothing in her parenting skills for anyone to point a finger at. Yes, she works, and surely she has a nanny for those children while she does. As good as Mommy? No, but better than a ratty daycare center, on home alone, which is where a lot of children wind up. I honestly can't see any negatives at all to what she's done. Not a single one. While she COULD have waited for a life partner to start her family, she chose to accept that she might never find one and if so, she'd be passing the chance to parent and thereby miss the opportunity to enrich the lives of several children. I just can't see a SINGLE THING wrong with what she did. And as far as having an "agenda" impressed on her children, she has as much a right to shape them with her views as you and I do to shape our children with ours. It would be a boring world indeed if we all grew up looking at things the same way. Besides, even if you don't agree with Rosie's political stance, you have to admit, she's done her best to make the world a better place for her being here by trying her hardest to use her celebrity to support causes she feels strongly about. Regarding the women who "give up" at 30 and just decide to have that baby, and o heck with how she gets it, you do need to remember one thing; while men can go on "sowing the seeds of love" well in his twilight years, women cannot. We DO feel a biologivcal urge to reproduce, and we all know that after 35 the instances of birth defects skyrocket. If a woman truly has no life partner and sees no potential options she cannot just say "WEll, hell, I'l give it another 10 or 15 years.." If she wants the baby, she has no choice but to act on her own. While I'd certainly prefer to see women in these circumstances adopt a preexisting child, I do understand that adoption isn't the right fit for everyone, and I cannot behin to feel that I've the right to impose my viewpoints on women whose shoes I've never been in. If they love their children and raise them to be vital active members of this big global community, then bravo for them. And DON'T get me going on deadbeat Dads. My ex owes me 40k in back support, and there are no words for the debt he owes our son.. and that will never be repaid.. but that's another ball of wax. I now return you to your political/gun debate. Love to all, Opinionated, Gun owning, Valerie

Hey - what about the tax cut issue? Dems are saying only the rich would benefit. I don't know if anyone posting on this website is rich, but I assume everyone posting on this website works in one capacity or another for a living, or is married to someone who is working, and thus an integral part of the work force. Since we hear so much about "...if only one life could be saved, it'd be worth it..." when it comes to more gun control legislation, etc; then why can't we reverse the logic on the Dems for a tax cut and say, "...If only one person benefits from this tax cut, it'd be worth it..." Contrary to Tom Daschle's backfiring tactic about driving a Lexus on the lawn of Capitol Hill and trying to "scare" all the working people into thinking only the rich would benefit, I'd like to tell him that a dollar in my pocket is better than in their (Fed Gov't) pocket and I, thank you, know how to spend my money better than they do....

JM (82), I would have to agree with you on this issue. Did anyone know that Sen. Chris Dodd Sr. (1945-50) had a copy of Germany's gun control manifest brought over here had it translated and this is what is the foundation of the Gun Control Act of 1968. Why would anyone whose ancestors were exterminated would support gun control? I am speaking mainly of the Jewish population here in the USA. James
From: Joni Mitchell aka KlintonDeathClowns (1982) on Fri Apr 20 08:31:03 2001
Jimmy - Cool, now we're on to the gun control issue. Rosie O'Donnell is a hypocrite, but nowhere near the size of our great (NOT) senator DiFi. Not only does DiFi want to ‘get the guns’ (thank you Aaron Sorkin) – SHE CARRIES ONE. Yes, that’s correct, the great DiFi packs heat in her purse. Now, we all know that the great DemLibs know better than the rest of us, but this takes the cake. Try getting a carry permit in California; it’s next to impossible. It’s great how the DemLibs call themselves ‘pro-choice’ – that really isn’t a good descriptor for them – they are pro-abortion. What other issues do they support the individual’s choice – 2nd amendment right to bear arms – NOPE? School voucher – choice to send your kid to the school of your choice – NOPE… When they come for my Glock, I’ll be standing arm in arm with the great Moses, oops, I mean Chuck Heston. PEACE

Kevin, I agree that Ms. O'Donnell has the right to adopt. Now the gun issue with her is another story. Like you said it is ok for her bodyguards to have a gun whlie she is saying that alll the rest of us should be denied the use of firearms for self defense is that same Hollywood elite double speak and as you put it feel good politics. Don't you just love their favorite saying "If just one life was saved then it is worth it" When the bad guys start turning in their guns so will the rest of us. Freedom is never free it does extract a cost from us and that cost is lives. James

Hello Lor! Good to see you posting on the website and thanks for all your hard work ing getting the 1981 20-year reunion rolling... As for Rosie...I'm happy for the children that will now, at least, be afforded opportunities to blossom into the most they can be, thanks to Rosie's generosity in adopting them. But this same thanks should go to the millions of responsible parents who daily care for their children the best they can. I agree with James that it's tough to raise kids - I have two wonderful boys, 9 and 6, and my wife and I spend all the time we can with them, when not at work. It's a handful to say the least and the saddest(spelling?) part is there is no guarantee that they will be "model children" in the future. You do the best you can and smother them with love and discipline. Discipline, by the way, in my opinion, is NOT the enemy or opposite of loving your child/children. That so many children are born to unwed parents or single moms doesn't bother me except that such births most often entail welfare or state subsidy for the care of that child, thus relieving the genitors responsible for the birth, free and clear of fiscal responsiblity for the child. Dead-Beat Dad's are tops on my list of major causes of societal problems and the likes. It takes two to tango, as the saying goes. Yet far too often, it's the woman who is stuck with the child. Now, that being said, I loathe Rosie O'Donnell the "hypocrite" who uses her celebrity status to affect public opinions based on emotionally-laden "touchy-feely-goody" issues, while telling us our 2nd Amendment rights don't count, but they do for her bodyguard who watches her adopted children....
From: James Kalinski (1980) on Thu Apr 19 12:45:40 2001
VBA, RW, What Rosie did by adopting kids is a noble act and yes she has the money to pay for them. That is not the issue. We can all (most) agree that raising kids is hard enough (those with kids) and we all do our damned best. But to the BEST interest, and health of the kids they need BOTH parents Male and Female present for their rearing. Is Rosie straight? if so then why not have a male in her life to help with the rearing of these kids. If not I cannot help what "agenda" she may impose on them. Yes I know we all due much the same thing with our own kids but at least our kids are subjected to both a male and female opinion and or ideas. I know that some children will grow up in a home with one parent due to many reasons, divorced, death etc. And I do think that a kid is better off with one parent if the other is beating them. That was not the idea I was trying to convey. Look at Madonna she wanted to have a kid for her own self satisfaction (first one). I some gals who decided that if still single by age 30 + they were going to have a baby anyway. I know that it is hard to find someone out their that is "right" but life never waits for the right moment. I have been married for going on 11 years now, and I can testify that it is not easy (marriage) now I have an 8 year old girl, who is a great girl, but with both of us here it still a pain raising her. Now one thing we don't do is let her watch T.V., which means we have to "deal" with her and it is a challenge. What does Rosie do while she is working? I know she has servants and the like but that is no substitute for a Mom & Dad. What she does with her kids I would defend her right to do as she sees fit. After all this is America and we do have Freedom still (???). All I was saying that the illegitimate rate is up and it needs to come down, somehow. Are Gov. programs the answer? We all know the answer. NO. We have spent TRILLIONS since LBJ's (so called) war on poverty and yet more poeple are on the puplic dole than ever before. The problem is that you cannot legislate morality nor can you spent money on it either to make it go away. What do you think would happen if we stopped ALL welfare subsidies? Thank you VAl. for your opinion. James

Go Valerie! Geez James, is it a little hot in that oven? You know most the time I agree with you as well and I know we can't be the worlds keepers, but Val has a point. Nice to see a new face in the game (Val). Ok boys and girls, we need to find some actual Opponents. It’s obvious that we all share similar opinions with each other, isn’t there a left winger out there that cares enough about their point of view to engage us in spirited discussions? It is getting somewhat boring, we need some new blood to pick on, I mean debate with. Hee Hee! By the way, you people are great; do not get me wrong it is a pleasure chatting with you. It is just that we all seem to be on the same side of the fence. Hey how about that dust cloud from Mongolia that seems to be causing the haze over this part of the world. Isn’t that something, that’s 15000 miles away and were feeling the effects of it. Any comments? Rich

Ya know what James, a lot of the times I agree with you, but this time you're wrong. It was absolutely accepatable for Rosie to adopt those children. It's not like she was out whoring around with no concern for who got her pregnant. She made a concious decision to welcome 3 unwanted children into her heart and home.. and then she took in a Foster Child too. This woman can afford to provide these children with a wonderful life, and I'm very certain she'll see too it they have good male influences. You would deny her the right to parent because she has no male partner in her life? Good heavens! What a scary thought! What would you see done about all the widows, widowers and divorced parents out there? Rip their children from their arms because they are single parenting now? It does NOT take two parents to raise a child. It takes two parents to MAKE a child. Rosie (since you sited her as an example) took children that had already been created, she did not contribute to the overcrowding on this planet by pumping out a few more children. Furthermore, she adopted biracial babies which are harder to place than your standard white infant. While I certainly agree that it's best for a child if he or she has a Mom and a Dad who are happily married, I also know that one good parent is MUCH better than two crappy or unhappy ones. Children that grow up in single parent homes can and often do turn out just fine. I do think that it's a shame that the sanctity of marraige carries no weight in Hollywood. It's a shame that most sexual responsibility is simply thrown to the wind and people DO just pop out babies left and right with no concern. However, to say that Rosie's agenda was a feminist one is barking up the wrong tree. What she did was noble and good. You can not expect women (or men) who want to be parents to just give up their goal of doing so unless they find a partner of the opposite sex whom they wish to commit to for life. Unrealistic. Rosies kids are better off with her than they'd be in Foster Care, better off than they'd be in a unhappily married home, and probably nearly as well off as they'd be in a typical family. I say God bless her.

Well, well I guess Dan Quayle was right after all. It seems that illegitimate child birth is on the rise, for those of you on the left, that is childbirth when not married. Now don't atack me just yet, Yes I believe in marriage and for having children while married. These Hollywood types who insist on having children while not married is bad enough but the Rosie types just make me sick. It not for a child to grow up in a household with no father, or with no mother. It takes two parents(one of each sex) to raise a child and always will. What was Rosie thinking, just like most of the feminists who needs men. Any opinions??? James

PM - By saying the AmericanPeople are as “dumb as cattle”, I was speaking about only about the political arena. Ask your neighbor who your congressman is - see if he knows. Ask him if he knows about the Loral technology transfer – see if he knows who Charles Labella is – who Charlie Tree & James Riadi are… My point is, the majority of the people DO NOT keep their eye on the ball – they’re sadly misinformed about the workings of their elected officials. Yes, PM, I’m a bit bitter about the rascal who’s been in office the last 8 years. I did work hard for a local guy seeking re-election for US Congress – Steve Kykendall – what happened to him – he got shellacked by a sleze named Jane Harman – she ran better ads and told better lies. PM, even our side is a bit vexed of late, this guy was a former mayor of RPV, and he didn’t even win the hill – only because our side stayed home, couldn’t be bothered to vote. I’m done for now. PEACE

C'mon, guys...people are stupid!?! The average American is actually pretty well informed. We live in the greatest nation in the world (naysayers can go back to wherever it is that you came from if you don't like that). We enjoy a higher standard of living than any other country. Even the impoverished people in this country are better cared for than in other countries. There is a reason for this, Dieter...and it's not because we are a nation of people that are "dumb as cattle". Are there stupid people in America? Sure, an abundance of them, but they are of little consequence, and they are not responsible for shaping our lives. Is it an explanation that you need for the last 8 years of liberal excess? It's simple...the people of this country fell victim to a cheap and sleazy con artist. America put a smiling, perverse, dirt bag game show host of a President in the White House. Why? Because the timing could not have been better. The Germans are not a nation of stupid people, either...but not all that long ago they put a man like Adolph Hitler in power. Why did they do that? Because of the desperate need of change in their world at the time, and also because of a slick combination of media manipulation, bullying, and outright ruthlessness. Does that sound like a familiar recipie for someone's campaign? Do not impugn the intelligence of an entire nation because you are angry that your (our) side lost the previous two elections. Do something about it. Speak up when you hear some shameless liberal spewing lies about your party. Get out there and vote. Get into heated political debates...it's actually fun at times. As for your taxes...I hear you, bro. I'm in the same boat...but Dubya is going to deliver on his tax relief.

Hey! Richard! Kevvers! Hugs to you guys! :) Richard: The folks that did our 10 year reunion dissappointed a LOT of people. Even though my name and address were supplied to them by two different sources, they never followed up in trying to contact me. The fact that you never got your memory bok doesn't surprise me.. it seems that whole shebang was just a mess. HOWEVER, we are NOT going to have that problem with CCR. If Wanda says the reason the memory books aren't done is because of the 80 reunion committee, take her word for it. CCR is very reputable, in fact, Wanda's BIL graduated with us. Remember Danny Diroll? That's him! She won't let us down, you'll see. :) I think you'll all be very satisfied with our reunion.. we're trying really hard to make it memorable and fun! "Lori"
