I want to know who the cop is with humongus huevos. Imagine arresting, or at least, giving a ticket to the president's daughter!! But seriously, to answer the question she should be able to handle the matter on her own. However, if it were my child, I would support her in any way possible. Including the long lecture she would get as soon as we left the courthouse.
From: James Kalinski (1980) on Wed May 16 14:22:19 2001
Ok I will start this one. Dubya is going to catch hell because he did not go to his daughter's court date for underage drinking. Now what would you have him do? Stop the country and go or let her (now for some of you Lib's this will be difficult) take responsibility for herself? She did the right thing by the way.
From: Aprille Lipton (Collins) (1981) on Wed May 16 13:06:24 2001
Sorry Dave, I got you confused with the other Dave Doulton. I do remember you, though. Lori -- I noticed in an earlier post you mentioned Danny Diroll -- he was one of my "first" boyfriends. Please send a big hello through the grapevine!
From: Dave Dalton (1980) on Wed May 16 12:26:19 2001
Aprille, You've mistaken me for the "other" Dave Dalton. I did meet him once at a party, that was a little strange. When you mention the "hill", do you mean Crest? I knew alot of people who lived up there; Sue and Lisa Rucks, Eilleen and Cathy Murphy, just to name a few.
From: Aprille Lipton (Collins) (1981) on Wed May 16 11:30:05 2001
Richard Weeks and Dave Doulton! Wow are those some names from the past! "The Hill" -- I remember it well... Dave, how is your sister, Robin, doing these days?
From: Valerie Burton Appleton (1981) on Tue May 15 18:04:50 2001
Hi Grape-Ape!! :) People who I know will probably be there beside little old me: Steve Lund, Sandy Nitchman, Richard Weeks, Kevin Smith, Tony Barthel, Mary Bolton, Nancy Whitehead, Guy Takashima, Amy Cauble, Debi Van Doren, Megan Tracy, Monica Cilva, Dani Valenzuela, Mark Gregory, Karen Mack, Kelly Reyes, Marianne Tardaguila and Erin Cook. Of course, this is not an OFFICIAL reunion committee tally, it's based only on my conversations with people. And just so you SHS81 grads know, there was a problem with the printer and our invites were delayed, but should be going out in the mail tomorrow! 8 more weeks!! :)
From: Aprille Lipton (Collins) (1981) on Tue May 15 12:58:01 2001
So, who's going to attend our reunion this year? I haven't made up my mind yet. Living out in Simi Valley these days. Would love to hear from Sandie Loomes, Diane Brody, and others...

Bill, sounds good to me. Kelly??? KELLY??!! Are you packed yet???
From: Bill (68) on Mon May 14 22:42:04 2001
Kelly and Valerie , we got a suntan and a Mai Tai with your names on em.......every days an aloha day in paradise got the beach towels too !!! Denise , I paddle the Queen Liliokalani Race Iron every year 9 man crews and their pace boats just get in the way and create too much wake and body litter.....GO 18 MILES IRON and you know who you are !!!!! A couple of years ago I helped the guys from the Redondo Beach Canoe Club get their canoe rigged and in the water at the City of Refuge or as it is named in Hawaiian " Pu'uhonua o Honaunau " a massive stone wall built in 1550 ( for the Queen Liliokalani Race , it was my pleasure to help the paddlers from my home turf , made he happy and made me smile ). This is a very sacred place where the 18 mile Race starts. It was not the protective stone wall, however , that bestowed sancctity to the area : it was the sacred bones of the chiefs buried there that brought that sanctity. Hawaiian tradition holds that the " Ali'i " possessed "mana " , spiritual power. The pu'uhonau was a santuary that provided all people with a second chance. No blood could be shed within it's confines. The spirit of the pu'uhonua was repected by all. This canoe landing on the beach was originally for the use of the chief and his attendants only; the wooden images on the water warned others of the "kapu " . But beyound the Great Wall -- on the ocean side of the grounds -- was a place that , if one could reach it , was open to all. A Place of Refuge. My friends canoe club " Keoua " has their " haloe " there (the home of their canoes and canoe family) , sometimes I paddle with them it is awesome paddleing at a place that has not changed in 10,000 years . You go out and up and down the coast see no buildings , houses only a landscape that has been there forever, and the sunsets on the water rival anywhere on earth..... ya gotta love it......I never knew my Counselor at South myself.........I do the juniors right now will have them as seniors next year, I've had em since 9th grade and know em all......they are good friends.....good for the soul.....life is good !

Val, I can do that! No training required either. I'll even work for free.
From: Valerie Burton Appleton (1981) on Mon May 14 14:58:49 2001
Who's dreaming? Kelly just got back from Paris, and I'm on my way to L.A. for 3 weeks.. what makes you think we wouldn't jet off to Hawaii? Don't dare us! :) Richard.. I certainly appreciate the offer, but we'll be just fine without supervision.. however, you could probably hold the towels down while we go swimming... Kelly.. I got the sunscreen..meet me at LAX?
From: Dave Dalton (1980) on Mon May 14 12:42:09 2001
Look here! Another 1980 grad chiming in!! Hi Denise, if I'm not mistaken you lived on the "other" Susana Ave. Kelly and Val, it's good to see that you still dream. You to, for that matter, Rich. How about the 30 year reunion in Hawaii?? Dave
From: Denise Rogers (1980) on Mon May 14 12:09:55 2001
To:Kona Bill, Just a quick note to let you know we live aloha out here in So.Cal with our own outrigger association. Right now we are in our "ironman season" 10-14 mile races, so far so good. I will look for you @ the Queen Lili'uokalani race in September! Aloha D

Bill Sanders, There's another Bill, Bill. If you scroll back aways you'll see where we covered the topic of the military. You bet your ass were proud of our men and women in the armed fources. However, I don't think most of the other countries apreciate us. They only apreciate us we they can't get themselfs out of a jam. Most of the time they talk smack. Do we stick our nose where it doesn't belong, yea sometimes. I don't think we need to go into certian places when someone else is closer and can do the job for less money & effort. And I think some of our objectives were a bit squed in the recent past. If were going to go in and do a Job then do it, don't put our men & women in harms way for nothing. Hear I go again. Hey, James take over,Bill's a good guy so be good. He's been serving our country for most of the last twenty years.
From: Bill Sanders (81) on Mon May 14 11:03:27 2001
Ann was a great person. She didn't get mad at me when I stuck half a sheep heart in her purse during biology class and she didn't find it until three periods later.
From: Bill Sanders (81) on Mon May 14 11:00:54 2001
Rich,I don't have much to tell from the last 20 years. I've spent some time in texas, maine, maryland and now in georgia. I did have four fun filled months in kuwait last year. That's a good subject for you guys to talk about. Do you think the rest of the world is thankful for our sacrifices or do they think that we are stick our noses where they don't belong.
From: Richard Weeks (1981) on Mon May 14 10:36:48 2001
Ok Val, you know you and Kelly are going to need some supervision on this trip. So Um, I will go! You guys can do your thing and I’ll tell everyone that I supervised. Meanwhile I will really be lying on the beach soaking up the sun with a cool ice tea. Ahh doesn’t that sound nice. Might even go in the water a few times, that is if I can pry myself from the tuff job of supervising you two. Heheheheh! I can see it now, Hey Kelly, Val where did you guys go? Oh, well their big girls now they will be ok, I will look for them later. Back to my supervising. Heheheheh!

Hair bands. How I hate that label. Yeah, I know it fits, but it is still the application of stereotype. I still love the old school metal as well, Richard, but I also like some of the new music. It really isn't bad. Bands like Perfect Circle, Nickle Back, Bush...there's talent there. Remember how older people used to bag on our music when we were young? Remember the mantra "never trust anyone over 30"? I think that 75% of getting old is in one's outlook on life.
From: Richard Weeks (1981) on Mon May 14 08:18:00 2001
Bill S (Sergeant Sanders), Kelly. Unfortunately, Ann is no longer with us. I don’t remember exactly when it happened but she was in a car accident on the corner of Hawthorne & PCH and did not make it. She was a great girl. I have many fond memories of her when we were growing up on the Hill. It’s very hard to sit at that intersection waiting for the light and not think about her. Hey Bill, you have a good story you should tell everyone what you have been doing for the last twenty years. Bill remember lasarium?
From: Kelly Scott (1980) on Mon May 14 07:10:58 2001
On a serious note, what did happen to Ann Elming? I didn't recognize the name, but I just looked her up in the yearbook, and I remember her beautiful face, especially that smile, very well.
From: Kelly (Carll) Scott (1980) on Mon May 14 06:58:31 2001
Valerie, I'm pretty sure we're needed in Kona right away. What with all that paddling going on, they are undoubtedly desperately short on people to hold down their beach towels so the tropical breezes don't blow them away. I would be willing to sacrifice part of my Iowa summer to help them out. I'll bring an extra Mai Tai straw for you.
From: Bill Sanders (1981) on Sun May 13 20:50:48 2001
Hi all! I just read about a months worth of this stuff, very impressive. I'm sure not many remeber me, except Rich Weeks, since I was at South for my Jr. and Sr. years only. Rich I'm suprised at how much you remember from H.S. What happened to Ann Elming? I've been out of the South Bay for 20 years.
From: Valerie Burton Appleton (1981) on Sun May 13 15:54:58 2001
Kelly, I think we ought to make a "girl trip" to go visit Bill and make sure he's not getting too much sun...

KDC What's your name? My first job was at Al's Subs and Grinders. It was owned and named for my neighbor across the street on Susana Ave. I started working there when I just turned 15(at a commanding salary of $2.15 an hour!). About a year later Albert's father and brother-in-law bought it. Because they had an "Al" in the family, they didn't change the name. All the guys I mentioned earlier worked there. We were a tight group. We once considered starting a band called the Scrubs, to bad we didn't know how to play any instruments except the "air" variety. Oh the dreams of youth!!. When Al's family sold the business me, Al, Erik, and Ron all migrated to DoBo Shell (across from PupnTaco) and turned it into party central. Talk about clouds!!!!!
From: Kevin Smith (1981) on Sun May 13 07:21:26 2001
Rich, I understand COMPLETELY, what you mean by "cloudy nights" for the Zeppelin movie...What I should confess is that I went to the movie 25 times, but collectively saw the entire movie about 3 times.....That soundtrack is still one of my favorites...

Bill -- O Why O Why didn't I get someone like you as my high-school counselor instead of Miss Castle?
From: Bill (68) on Sat May 12 23:11:19 2001
To answer Kelly's question on what is there to do on a typical weekend in Kona. I paddle canoes ( 6 man outrigger ) for Keauhou Canoe Club , which is one of the 22 organized Canoe Clubs on the island of Hawaii. Moku - O - Hawaii is the state organization of all the Canoe Clubs on all of the islands. Right now is the Regatta Season, which is 2 months of Canoe Races taking place every Saturday . The races are from 1/4 mile to 2 1/2 miles each , depending on the class and crew of the Canoe you are in. Then after that the Long Distance Season starts for another 2 months those Saturday races are 10 to 14 miles each. Season ends with the Queen Liliokalani Race 18 miles (the world series of canoe paddleing , it gets televised )and the Molokai Race from the island of Molokai to the island of Oahu which is 40 miles of 4 to 8 foot swells in the treacherous Kaiwi Channel(also televised). Its a massive cardiovascular workout.Seperates the men from the boys ! Other than that I ride my horses , get more tan, or go to one of the many places by the water to listen to live music. Other than that if you live in Paradise you spend your time Living Aloha. I head the Counseling Department at the new High School. Summer vacation starts on the 1st of June .....think I'll go to Hawaii for a few months vacation... with aloha

Kev, Kelly, Dave, I saw them all more times than I care to remember. Made the mistake of seeing Rust Never Sleeps once at the UA Torrance. Wow that movie sucked. Keven, hard to remember song remains the same, those were kinda cloudy nights if you know what I mean? Who remembers cruzing the strand? I kid you not, that's where I met my wife. Hey, Bill & the mad bomber thanks for your guys support on the posting issue. Ok Dave, guess you missed my posting the other day. AKA MetalHead; I miss my hair bads. I'm a hard core rocker to the very end. I love all kind of Rock, except, what these kids listen to today. Yuk! Oh, the back street boys, man if I here my daughter play one more song I'll go nuts. I do admit though I did a good job on her. If Journey, Boston, Kansas, or any hair band were to play at her school. She'd be the only one having a good time. Peace!

Speaking of Albert Grandmaison, anyone ever eat as his family's sandwich shop on PCH - good stuff. I guess I'm the offical restaurant guide of the SoBay
From: Kevin Smith (1981) on Sat May 12 12:51:39 2001
Kelly, what did you say - could you speak a little louder? Ha! You're right - the Zeppelin movie was really loud - I saw it about 25 times or more - I don't know what damage it's done to my hearing, yet.....I lived by that UA Theatre so I'd have probably seen whatever midnight movie was showing...
From: Dave Dalton (1980) on Sat May 12 12:21:10 2001
Speaking of Albert Grandmaison, if any of you 1981 grads going to your reunion bump into him, or Erik Bucy, or Ron Hupe, tell them I said hello. Also tell them about this site. Actually, why not make some kind of announcement about the site at the reunion. I had many friends in that "junior" class. Dave
From: Dave Dalton (1980) on Sat May 12 11:47:38 2001
Kelly, you're probably right. The other 145 times I saw it was probably with Albert Grandmaison and that whole group. Never did see the Zeppelin show, but did see The Ramones and "Rock and Roll HS" a couple times (also at the Cove). Regarding the DK's, my youngest son Derek (10 yrs) has a Playstation/N64 game, "Tony Hawk something", with one of their songs in it. I about fell out of my chair the first time I heard it!! I don't even know the title, but you can tell it's DK stuff. How 'bout now everyone, what kind of music do you listen to?? Have you succumbed to your children's music or do you make them suffer through all that "old" (all time greatest classic rock) music? Dave
From: Kelly Scott (1980) on Sat May 12 06:17:32 2001
Hi Bill -- It's so nice to see you at this site. I'd love to see more folks who graduated in the '60s, '70s and '90s posting here. Got a question for you. When you live in Kona, what do you do on a typical weekend? Coming to you from the island of Iowa. P.S. Note to Kevin Smith -- I saw the Zeppelin show once. It was so LOUD my ears were ringing halfway through. And I was a Dead Kennedys fan later, so loud usually didn't bother me all that much. How's your hearing, now, bud?
From: Bill (68) on Sat May 12 00:55:40 2001
Aloha Friday from Kona , Hawaii. Wishing you all a great well deserved weekend !!!!!!! and " good work " tuning up Bill brasky from 2001 . This site is everyone's to communicate with each other on......and everyone seems to do very well at it. Hey , does his last name really begin with a little " b " or was he the only one from the class of 2001 that could never get his name right after having to put it at the top of all his homework papers for a million times.
From: Kevin Smith (1981) on Fri May 11 22:55:42 2001
Okay, Kelly - you saw the Rocky Horror Picture show about 25 times, but I was part of another group who preferred to watch the Song Remains the Same, every other Friday night, at the Old UA Theatre that used to be on PCH/Crenshaw - Who else used to go there at midnight, every other week, to see Zeppelin?
From: Bret Barham (1981 sorta) on Fri May 11 21:08:45 2001
I hope the regular posters keep posting. Its no accident this site was dead until you guys started posting. I enjoy the give and take. The more points of view the better. If people don't like the posts don't read them. Trivia question? Which science teacher was a creationist and taught both evolution and creation?
From: Kelly Scott (1980) on Fri May 11 17:43:15 2001
Yo, Davo Dalton, I think I saw Rocky Horror Picture Show about 25 times. I'm sure quite a few of those were with you, Annette Stroud and Scot Ferguson. The Cove Theater -- what a fabulous dump!
From: Rich (1981) on Fri May 11 17:36:33 2001
So, what, a few people whine and you guys stop posting? Come It’s like Jell-O, there’s always room for more. Ok, I’ll give you another clue to my trivia question from this morning. Didn’t know I gave you one already did you, Yup I gave you a clue to the name of the group. Ok here’s another line or so from the song. So oooo, understand. The wasted time always searching for those, Wasted Years. Ok, here’s some advise for you young pups out there. If you’re going to drink alcohol (which you shouldn’t) and you feel sick, Don’t grab for a wicker trash can!

Some local info. Redondo H.S Class of 81 is having their Reunion on the Queen Mary, Sat the 19th. I know, who cares, but my wife went there. I missed my 20 year last year so I'm making up for it. Pop on by and we'll drink with all the ghosts.

Dave, Yes I do remember that run. I was just by the Mini-top up silver spur. What a HARD run both of those were. Hey Dave what about the beach runs in the sand from rat beach to ave D (I think)where the stairs are, After a "nice" stroll in the sand, then 10 sets of stairs, then another "stroll" back in the sand. My legs hurt just from think about it. Hey look no political statements this time.

From: Dave Dalton (1980) on Fri May 11 12:18:16 2001
How many times do you see Rocky Horror Picture Show down at the Cove Theater? I probably paid money to see that movie 40 times! Hey James, remember "Over the Top"? Coach Scully's death run.
