Bill, not only are you full of wisdom and fine advice for living, you are genius for deciphering ROSH's post(s). I personally couldn't comprehend a single mispelled WORD.
From: Bill (68) on Mon Jan 27 00:38:39 2003
Yo, Chris, still alive and very well. and yes it is apparent that I have been totally misunderstood.

ROSH relax. I never said that you judged anyone, and what I had said about your 11 year old was a complement. Reread your post that I was responding to, and then reread my response to you.I was merely responding to your original statement and question on how to best explain something to an 11 year old.

Overall,
I still think that ROSH's child is pretty cool regardless of having what I have said mis interpreted. It's ok though, I am definetly never angry at anyone who did not clearly understand what I have said. I still think the 11 year old is wiser than his or her years and made a very astute observation about the board.

Thank you Chris, VBA, RDOG, and Bill S. for the correct interpretation of what I have said. I was trying to help someone that had asked for help, especially since it involved helping an 11 year old.
And yes I'm in my 50's not my 30's; although , I just met a woman a week ago who asked me how old I was for some reason, and when I asked her how old she thought I was her response was that she thought I was 34...but if ROSH thinks I'm someone he or she knows that is in their 30's it's not me.

Chris, re : what I've been up to...Just got back from an 8 mile outrigger canoe run in 13 foot swells, what a rush !!!! racing canoes clearly let's me know I'm truly ALIVE, and that will always maintain a positive outlook on life for me..... Without a doubt it is a great day to be alive, glad your all sharing this life with me..

with warmest aloha

Wow! Where did that come from? R.O.S.H- I think you took Bill68 the wrong way. I have been reading his postings for a year or so, and he is the most positive and supporting person that I have seen on the board. Also I don't think he is who you think he is. He is in his fifties, not his thirties. Please reread his post and try to take it as good advice, not an attack on you or your child. I wish you the best of luck.

To : South High Respect for Others.

Sounds like you've been through a lot and I wish you the best in healing from it all, it will pass and you sound like a good person,

your concern comes from your childs very astute observation; which shows that he or she has a powerful command of the obvious....and folks this is where the expression " From the mouths of babe's " came from....listen to the honest, and objective criticism of an 11 year old on the communication that is taking place on this board from what an 11 year old thinks are adults.....because it has just been related to you.
and perhaps your explaination to your 11 year old would include that sometimes people become angry about things and their volume increases to make their point, thus argumentation and debate. Much as you did in relating your concern. And sometimes the way people express their loud anger is hateful; which makes questionable or even wrong how they are treating others or if they know how to show love. For guiding an 11 year old or anyone for that matter, perhaps the idea for you to relay to he or she that this can be used as a lesson and the reason why he or she when becoming angry or people everywhere when becoming angry should ---------step back from a situation when they start to feel real angry and breathe in.........breathe out...........breathe in........breathe out.....which allows one time to Stop and Think about what is happening or what they are doing therefore hopefully becoming More Thoughtful
and also to show your 11 year old that if this is how he or she perceives other people when they act out so poorly without thought or without showing any love for others then this is how everyone will perceive him or her if ever he or she does the same thing....This should be an example of a character trait that you can clearly show your child they do not want to have, and an opportunity to learn from the mistakes of someone else rather than their own. Show your child that one can become angry and make a point or communicate to improve a situation or to make things better, or one can become angry and make a FOOL out of themselves.Use this as an opportunity to show wisdom rather than more anger, use it as an opportunity with your 11 year old to teach respect and how one goes about earning it ; which you will find that you will do , by allowing your child to clearly see how others go about losing the respect of other people......This should allow your child to know how to gain respect in his or her life, and therefore become wiser than his or her years.Tell your son or daughter that at the age of 11 that I think he or she is a pretty cool kid, who has my respect. Keep up the good work!!!

Keep in mind the glass is half full.(*_,*)

From: SOUTH HIGH RESPECT FOR OTHERS????? (1985) on Mon Jan 20 21:51:23 2003
HI TO EVERYONE!
WHAT HAPPEN TO THE OLD SOUTH HIGH RESPECT FOR EACH OTHER,AND SUPPORT NO MATTER WHAT. LIFE IS WAY TOO SHORT FOR ANY HATE,OR TO BE EACH OTHERS ENEMIES.
YES, I KNOW 1ST HAND ABOUT THE ANGRY FEELINGS OF A MURDDER FRIEND,BUT THE FIGHTING,AGRUEMENTS,AND HATE TORES EACH OTHER ISN'T THE ANSWER.FAMILY MEMBERS AND FRIENDS DON'T NEED TO SEE OR HEAR THIS.THE ONES THAT HAVE DIED TO ALL KINDS OF DEATH WOULD NOT WANT THIS.DEATH OF A LOVE ONE IS NOT EASY THING TO GO THROUGH; BUT ALL THAT ANGUISH THAT EVERYONE OF YOU ARE FEELING.PUT INTO A SUPPORT GROUP FOR EACH OTHER AND THEIR FAMILIES THAT NEED YOUR SUPPORT.WE'RE NOT KIDS ANYMORE,(GROWN ADULTS),AND MOST OF US HAVE KIDS OF OUR OWN. YOU MORE THAN LIKELY PREACH TO YOUR CHILDERN ABOUT HATE AND FIGHTING. NEED TO LISTEN AS YOU READ THIS MESSAGE BOARD OUT LOUD. NO THAT OLD SAYING PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH. HATE INSIDE, ONLY KILLS YOU ALSO
I KNOW THAT PART ALSO,I WAS IN ABUSIVE MARRIAGE TO WHERE MY KIDS AND I WERE BEAT SO BAD.HATE DOESE A STRESSFUL THING TO PEOPLE. DON'T HATE,PUT ALL THAT
ANGUISH INTO SOMETHING USEFUL FOR EVERYONE. LOVE ONE ANOTHER,NO MATTER WHAT.SUGAR AND VINGAR DOESE NOT MIX, BUT (SUGAR IS SWEET IS GOES FARTHER IN LIFE WITH PEOPLE,AND YOU WILL BE HAPPIER WITH YOURSELF.) MY 11 YEAR OLD SAW THIS WHEN READING IT,AND ASKED ME WHY THERE WAS SO MANY PEOPLE TALKING SO HATEFUL. I DIDN'T KNOW REALLY HOW TO RESPOND TO THAT.I HAD TO THINK THAT ONE THROUGH CAREFULLY.HE SAID GOD SAIDS TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER,AND TREAT EACH OTHER AS YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED.
GOOD LUCK,AND I HOPE TO SEE A SUPPORT GROUP ANNOUNCEMENT SOON.

P.S
IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT WE WISH TO CHANGE IN THE CHILD,WE SHOULD FIRST EXAMINE IT AND SEE WHETHER IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT COULD BETTER BE CHANGED IN OURSELVES.
PUT ALL GOOD MEMORIES IN SOMETHING SPECIAL FOR THE ONE THAT HAS PASSED ON TO A BETTER PLACE.
____GOD BLESS YOU ALL IN MANY WAYS,AND
____MAY YOU FIND PEACE!!___P.S.S
WOULD BE REALLY NICE TO SEE THE RESPECT BACK ON THE OUR OLD HIGH SCHOOL BOARD!AGAIN!

Just got about 6 inches of hair trimmed myself as it was getting pretty long, still got plenty with no signs of getting any less without the lady who just cut it getting paid more $$. And no abductions have occured sorry to say. The last celestial event here in paradise was the radical meteor shower a couple of months ago, meteors from one end of the sky to the oceans horizon with trails that spanned one third of the sky and the showers lasted for a couple of hours, hundreds of meteors. It was awesome.

Bill68, That is an intriguing story. Are you sure it didn't have something to do with an alien abduction? When I see Eleanor I will pass on your story. I remember you with glasses in school! You don't need any correction anymore? That is amazing. Sorry about the ramblings on the roundtable page. I get a little miffed when someone says people do it for the money! On a lighter note, the last time I got carded was at Magic Mountain when I was about 35. I guess I'm aging faster than you. Oh well, at least I still have hair. I heard awhile back that there were a few other of our class living in the islands. Gail Burden, Mardee Sibole, Deb Darby, to name a few. Do you know if this info is correct? Have you seen any of them? Any others? Keep smiling. C-YA CJ

From: Chris (68) on Sun Jan 12 11:01:04 2003
Chris 68
Speaking of our advanced ages, when you say hi to Eleanor for me , tell her that the weirdest thing happened to me regarding eyes, she'll get a hoot cause her thing is fixing eyes. I was reading to finish a Masters Degree program in 94 and it was about 2 am by the fireplace and all of a sudden I could not see any of the words on the book as they became a physical blurr, and knowing I had a final the next day I threw the book and a few obseneties at the floor, took off my glasses and was wondering what was wrong and what the hell I was gonna do. As I was sitting there in frustration I was staring at the book on the floor knowing that I needed the information and noticed that I could read the words, so I picked it up and without my glasses ( I have worn glasses to read forever) I could read the words , so I did finished to book, took the final the next day without glasses and went to an Opthamologist the following day to see what was wrong. He checked my eyes, asked me to see the glasses and candidly said " I know exactly what the problem is....you have 20-20 vision and your wearing these glasses that are causing you to make the letters you see blurr, these glasses are going to ruin your eyes because there is nothing wrong with them. He said obviously they were prescribed for you, which I have verified, but doctors prescribe glasses to remedy vision, and for you it has apparently worked, if you want to continue with 20-20 vision stop wearing these glasses you don't need them anymore, YOUR WELL NOW ..."
So I'm here to tell you that glasses can actually fix vision sometimes altogether cause I know it was not the result of an alien abduction or a religious experience......go figure.....and on the other thing , thanks, youngsters / oldsters if they as me something about something their just gonna get the truth, most of the time the truth will set one free...or at least awaken one....and gotta keep smiling it exercises my face and that must improve things cause ..here's one for ya I actually got carded the other day to buy a 12 pack of Miller Genuine Draft which I seriously needed one of after riding horses for 3 hours, and this lady about 40 made me go out to my car to get my ID....it was a long walk to the car and back, but I was smiling especially when her eyes got bigger and her mouth dropped open upon seeing my birthday of 6/12/1950, so smiling definitely keeps ya lookin younger brah. Someone can tell you when I may be on shift again. I don't remember Mrs. Stopper, I think I had Mrs. Heilman(sp), she was Debbie Heilman's mom. I remember the name Rick Page, but my recollection of him is vague. Was he in scouts or Little League? I wonder if he may have lived on Greenmeadows near my parents house? Bill A. I see Dick DeLong occasionally, if you want, I could tell him to meet you on this site, or maybe I can get his e-mail if I see him. He just bought Betty a new red TransAm convert. for her b-day. Happy New Year to both of you. Bill- Anchor market, wasn't it once called El Rancho (?), you were probably a Nightrider.
From our class I still message with Chris Parker, Paul Yockey and Bob Knop. I still live in Torrance so run into some of the old Spartans but most are younger. I do see Terry Tamble every once in a while.

Chris, I have a friend name Rick Page, who went to Newton for grades 3&4 but his dad was in the military and they moved every couple of years. Anyway, he lives in Torrance now and found out we were in Mrs. Stopper's class together. Did you have her? She sure brings back some memories?
Chris are you still at the airport station? Was at Pennisula GMC/Buick and thought of knocking on the station door...but didn't remember if you were there or not.

Hope all is well with you guys and your families.

Chris, Top of the Morning to you and glad to hear everything is well, Holidays were great spent Christmas in Waikiki, one of the other rocks, spent yesterday cookin at the beach. I'm not sure when I'll hit the coast next, in June-July I was in the South Bay-Dallas-South Bay-Reno-South Bay and back to the islands. Almost went this last week as I am on 25 day vacation from the Dept. of Ed., but the weather is to great right now, so came back to kick back paddle canoes and ride horses and relax..It would be great to hook up with you and McCaig and ? on my next trip back, I get there once a year , as I still have a home in Norco, my mom still lives there and one of my sons is just about to transfer to Long Beach State, and I am looking to get another house in that area to avoid him paying rent.. You know who I saw last time I was there was Mike Burch. I went to Anchor Liquor to get some tonic water and lime, and was sitting shotgun with my son driving and he came out and was walking right by, I called him by name and he asked me if he knew me. My son was asking me at the time how I knew this old man, I told him that I had known him since we were in 8th grade, which astonded him. Mike actually didn't beleive me and said there was no way that I was who I am, so it was necessary for me to refresh his memory in relationship to several of our experiences along with stuff we did with Robbi Laporte, Ken Clark, Robbie Hockderfer. Skip Young and others. It was a hoot !! We ended up going to lunch and slammin a couple of brewskie's. Don't have much contact with others from our class except for Robbie LaPorte, or Glenn Benson , who I stay in contact with or Mindy Albright, who just sent me a Chrismas card, or through this board with you and Bill. I got an email from Dick Delong and one from Kevin Thill last year, but swithed from msn to another internet service and lost their addresses. Who are you still in contact with??
Anyway it's warm, sunny, blue skies, so gotta get in the water.

Wishing you and everyone else here the best year ever.

with aloha

I'm sad to read about all the deaths, but I guess that goes to show we are getting OLDER, eh! I am hoping that Class of '78 is having a 25th reunion. Anyone on the last committee here on this site? Just wanted to see if anyone else had received an email from George Petropulos ('92) recently, I do not know him but apparently he sent me an email wiht a virus!
Just wanted you all to know and keep your heads up, just cause someone sends you an email relating to South doesn't mean they are harmless.
Hope you are all having a wonderful holiday season!

Dear South High Alumni,

If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it. Beth Sampson was a very dear friend of mine, last Friday I called her to give her my yearly ribbing about the UCLA vs. USC game. Then I got the bad news. If anyone could please provide me with information on how to find her brother Neil, or any family member, again it would be greatly appreciated. My e-mail address is Dave8826@yahoo.com.

Thank You,

Dave

So sorry to hear of Tom Shannon's passing. I visited the web site to find that Tom was well-loved, and for good reason. He was too young, too talented and too funny to be taken. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
From: A Friend. (Attn: Class of 1984) on Sun Nov 24 07:10:58 2002
Dear Alumni, it is with a heavy heart I wish to let everyone know that Tom Shannon passed away on the morning of 11/14/02 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He passed away painlessly with his wife, mother and father at his side. Tom is and will always be our friend and I know we all will miss him very much. I love you bro.

Pretty funny. I wish I'd have thought to say that. Last I saw Blair, he was watching a Dodger game way up in the right field foul pole area, about as high and far away from home plate as one could be without being out of the park.

In an effort to get more pictures in the directory, I scanned in the senior pictures from the yearbooks I have. Take a look at classes 1984 - 1987. I think it improves the directory quite a bit, and would like to now get some of the other years done, so I am seeking volunteers. If you have some yearbooks and a scanner, and would like to help, please let me know. Thanks!

Excuse me Mr. "South Alumni," but just because it is an "ALUMNI's" message board you should be a dick to the future alumni of South. Didn't you lears anything about respect in you days at South, because I know that now they are always preaching to us about being polite(which you don't know how to do). So have a little respect and kindness for us soon to be alumni of South!

Read the bottom two lines again. One should be able to comprehend. If you have more questions or continue to be confused, crack open a phone book, find a local Masonic Lodge or Temple and either call or visit and ask. You may try looking at the Discovery Channel. They did a documentary about the Mason's about 3-4 years ago.

Nobody, no, I am not a Mason. The definitions were taken out of Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary.
